Creative Association for Arts and Culture Drom has been founded in 1976. Drom’s mission is to promote intercultural dialogue in Finland and internationally through means of art and cultural political activity.
Drom Association’s founder, author, Cultural Counsellor Veijo Baltzar acts as its chairman. Baltzar is known as a versatile artist and social activist as well as a forerunner in issues of multiculturality.
Drom functions in Finland and internationally. We produce theatre, art, exhibitions, literature, music and education. Drom Association also works in the field of cultural politics. We collaborate internationally to hold conferences and seminars that promote societal change. With the multidisciplinary scientific and artistic events we aim at affecting decision-makers and social actors that have the will and power to engage in building better, functioning multicultural Europe.
In 2009, the Drom association’s strategic steering committee was founded and it has since then become an important background influence. The members of the steering committee are Cultural Counsellor Veijo Baltzar, former Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen, MEP Liisa Jaakonsaari, Members of Parliament Ilkka Kanerva, Pekka Haavisto and Outi Alanko-Kahiluoto, Youth Affairs Counsellor Olli Saarela and Director Reima Jokinen of the Alexander Theatre in Helsinki. Previous members of the committee include minister for Environmental Affair Kimmo Tiilikainen and Astrid Thors, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities.
During the last decade, three elements have formed the core stone of our activity. They are the established activity of Integration theatre Baltzar, the touring exhibition ”Miranda – The Roma Holocaust. Who’s Afraid of the WhiteMan?” and its complementary activities, as well as cultural politics. Development and promotion of Intercultural Experiential Education is also an important part of Drom’s developmental activities.
